What you can practice

  • Prepare scan data for reverse engineering
  • Reconstruct editable CAD geometry
  • Review accuracy and prepare CAD output
PROPOSED LEARNING TOPICS8 TOPICS
Interface, file handling, and project setup. Interface, navigation, data types, and file handling.

Navigate the workspace and feature tree, identify point clouds, polygon meshes, and CAD data, and import supported files for the reconstruction workflow.

Practice output: An organized project with the reference scan and modeling inputs prepared.
QUICKSURFACE PRO & QUICKSURFACE FOR SOLIDWORKS
Reference Geometry & Alignment Create useful references and position scan data correctly.

Extract reference geometry such as planes and symmetry features, then use these references to establish the correct position and orientation of the scanned part.

Practice output: Scan data aligned to a useful reconstruction coordinate system.
QUICKSURFACE PRO & QUICKSURFACE FOR SOLIDWORKS
Cross-Sections & Sketch Preparation Create sketch references from scanned geometry.

Generate cross-sections from scan data and use them as references for sketching and CAD reconstruction.

Practice output: Cross-sections and sketches prepared for downstream modeling.
QUICKSURFACE PRO & QUICKSURFACE FOR SOLIDWORKS
Parametric CAD Reconstruction Rebuild mechanical geometry using CAD features.

Use scan-derived reference geometry and sketches to reconstruct solid or surface geometry using the modeling tools available in the selected software environment.

Practice output: Editable CAD geometry based on the scanned component.
QUICKSURFACE PRO & QUICKSURFACE FOR SOLIDWORKS
Freeform Surface Reconstruction Reconstruct complex or organic geometry.

Use freeform surface approximation and related tools for shapes that cannot be represented efficiently with simple mechanical features.

Practice output: Surface geometry fitted to complex scanned shapes.
QUICKSURFACE PRO & QUICKSURFACE FOR SOLIDWORKS
Hybrid Modeling Combine mechanical and freeform reconstruction methods.

Use a mixed modeling approach for parts that contain both regular geometric features and complex freeform areas.

Practice output: Practice output: A model using the appropriate reconstruction strategy for different areas of the part.
QUICKSURFACE PRO
Deviation Review & Model Validation Compare the reconstructed model against the original scan.

Use color-map or comparison tools to review how closely the CAD model matches the reference mesh and identify areas that may require refinement.

Practice output: A reviewed CAD model with deviation results used to guide refinement.
QUICKSURFACE PRO & QUICKSURFACE FOR SOLIDWORKS
CAD Output & Practical Reverse Engineering Workflow Bring scan preparation, reconstruction, and validation together.

Apply the workflow to a guided reverse engineering example that combines scan import, alignment, cross-sections, modeling, validation, and downstream CAD preparation.

For standalone QUICKSURFACE, the workflow can include STEP or IGES export. For QUICKSURFACE for SOLIDWORKS, the reconstructed geometry remains within the SOLIDWORKS environment for continued CAD work.

Practice output: A completed reverse engineering workflow prepared for downstream engineering use.

Help me choose
What is included in QUICKSURFACE Pro Standard Training?

Standard Training follows a structured reverse engineering workflow using the standalone QUICKSURFACE application.

Topics can include scan import, reference geometry extraction, alignment, cross-sections, shape fitting, CAD reconstruction, freeform surfacing, deviation analysis, and CAD export.

Exact exercises and topic depth are confirmed before training based on your experience and agreed scope.

What is included in QUICKSURFACE for SOLIDWORKS Training?

QUICKSURFACE for SOLIDWORKS Training focuses on working with scanned data directly inside the SOLIDWORKS environment.

Training can include scan import, reference geometry extraction, alignment, cross-sections, sketch preparation, CAD reconstruction, freeform surface workflows, and comparison against the reference scan.

Which training should I choose: QUICKSURFACE Pro or QUICKSURFACE for SOLIDWORKS?

Choose QUICKSURFACE Pro Training if you use the standalone application and want a dedicated scan-to-CAD workflow with CAD export.

Choose QUICKSURFACE for SOLIDWORKS Training if you want to perform the reverse engineering workflow directly inside SOLIDWORKS.

If your application has specific reconstruction requirements, Customized Training may be the better fit.

Is QUICKSURFACE training suitable for beginners?

Yes. Standard Training can start with the software interface, scan import, reference geometry, alignment, and the core reverse engineering workflow.

Previous CAD or reverse engineering experience can be helpful, but the starting point can be adjusted to your current experience.

Can Customized Training use our own scan data and parts?

Potentially, yes.

Customized Training can be scoped around your own parts, scan data, CAD environment, reconstruction goals, and workflow challenges.

Before scheduling, we will review whether the data is suitable for training and confirm any confidentiality, compatibility, and scope requirements.

Does training cover freeform surfacing?

Yes.

Both QUICKSURFACE products provide tools for freeform surface approximation, so this topic can be included where relevant to your application and agreed training scope.

Does training cover deviation analysis?

Yes.

Training can include comparing reconstructed CAD geometry against the reference scan to evaluate the quality of the reverse engineering process and identify areas that may require refinement.

Do I need a 3D scanner for the training?

Not necessarily.

Many exercises can use existing scan datasets such as STL, OBJ, or PTX files. If your training scope includes scanner operation or new data capture, those requirements should be confirmed separately.

Do I need SOLIDWORKS for QUICKSURFACE for SOLIDWORKS Training?

Yes. QUICKSURFACE for SOLIDWORKS is an add-in that operates within SOLIDWORKS, so the appropriate SOLIDWORKS installation, QUICKSURFACE add-in, and software setup need to be confirmed before training.

How long does training take, and what does it cost?

Training duration and pricing are quote-based.

The final scope depends on the selected training option, participant experience, number of attendees, software environment, and whether Customized Training is required.

We do not publish an hourly rate. Contact 3D Wonders for a quote based on your requirements.

Can we request individual or team training?

Yes. Training can be arranged for individuals or teams.

For team training, share the number of participants, experience levels, software setup, and the workflows you want to cover so the training scope can be planned appropriately.
